How are area caches doing?
Reply Quote
We'd like to come up to the area, and want to know if many caches are in good shape. We're looking at some, and don't see many post-Ike finds. We're not picky as to where to go, but Nac.-Lufkin-Center-San Augustine is where we are looking right now.
Thanks!

I would say the maintenance of the caches in the area is for the most part top notch. I will certainly confess that I will probably not be going out to check all of mine individually and will need someone to confirm that they are not available. Although I do have a hard time seeing how many of mine would have been affected. I can say that probably no one is better at doing maintenance on their caches than the Pastor and Pastor's Wife. I am not sure why there is so little activity in this area since the hurricane. I do know that high gas prices are beginning to take their toll on me and my caching will likely slow down with the reaching of my 5,000th cache. I will certainly go for the local stuff and cache while I can in certain areas but the combing of East Texas like I did in the past will have to slow down for the time being.

We found the area to be in good condition. A few of the caches hadn't been found for almost a year (we signed the log right after Pearle's on some!)
Our cache count was 75 for the weekend, with one cache found on the way, and one on the way back - 2 new counties, albeit that they both were Walmart skirtlifters.
We hadn't read all of the logs, and quite a few have DNFs that we didn't know about, so we lost a bit of time, but all in all, we had a great weekend.
Mission Delores campground was a good place to stay.
